Otoplasty in Toronto

In Toronto, patients under 18 can have this procedure covered by OHIP with a referral from their family doctor. Dr. Brace also performs otoplasty for adults over the age of 18, where the cost of the procedure falls to the patient. Various techniques are employed to reshape the ear’s natural folds so that the ears are positioned closer to the head.

Who is a candidate for ear surgery?

Dr. Brace offers otoplasty for adults over the age of 18. The optimal age for children seeking otoplasty is around four to five years old once the ears have reached adult size. Surgery is not advised before this age. The reasons to undergo ear surgery include the following:

  • Men and women who feel that their ears are too prominent.
  • Parents who have a child who needs ear reshaping surgery to avoid teasing.
  • Individuals with asymmetrical or uneven ear structure.
  • Those who have overly large ears in proportion to the rest of the face.
  • People with drooping or elongated earlobes stretched due to heavy earrings or age.
  • Patients who had gauged earrings want to restore the earlobes to a natural appearance.
  • Those with torn or damaged ears or earlobes from earrings, injuries, or trauma.
  • Correction of congenital ear deformities.

What is earlobe repair?

Earlobe repair, or “lobuloplasty,” is a surgical procedure to reshape the earlobe to correct a sagging elongated appearance.

Who is a candidate for earlobe repair?

Men and women seek earlobe repair to address misshapen, stretched, overly-large, or ripped earlobes. Women may have stretched earlobes from years of wearing heavy earrings, while men may dislike the shape of the earlobes for a more refined earlobe shape.

What is gauge ear repair?

A gauge ear repair is a restorative procedure to recreate a natural-looking earlobe after a gauged ear piercing has stretched the earlobe to accommodate spacers. The ear can be re-pierced after healing to accommodate standard earrings.

What is slot ear repair?

Slot ear repair addresses earlobe deformities caused by earrings that have partially torn a piercing towards the edge of the earlobe but not through it. After the repair, the ear can be re-pierced.

What is lacerated ear lobe repair?

A lacerated ear lobe repair addresses situations where an earring pulls through the edge of the earlobe, causing a split from the piercing downward. This can be repaired, and after healing, the ear can be re-pierced for earrings.

Your consultation

During a consultation, Dr. Brace will speak with you about your desired ear shape and aesthetic concerns in the context of your facial balance.
