What are Facial Fillers and Injectables?

Facial fillers are designed to combat age-related volume loss in the temples, jawline, cheeks, and lips, leading to fuller, more youthful-looking contours. Fillers can also be used to smooth away folds, creases, lines, and wrinkles.

Neuromodulators are injectables that work in a different way. They function to correct dynamic lines formed while the face is in motion. BOTOX, for instance, temporarily incapacitates the tiny facial muscles responsible for wrinkle formation by interrupting nerve signals to the brain. Fillers and neuromodulators can be utilized in combination to create stunning non-surgical facelift results.

What will my session entail?

Many fillers and injectables are formulated with built-in lidocaine, a numbing agent. Your provider can also apply a topical anesthetic prior to your injections to keep you comfortable and relaxed throughout your session. Your chosen filler or neuromodulator is then carefully administered to predetermined points highlighted with a surgical pen.

Our team at Guelph Facial Plastics strives to deliver subtle, nuanced changes, avoiding the overfilling that can lead to unnatural-looking outcomes. Once your injections are complete, you are free to resume your normal schedule, returning to work, school, or just enjoying your day.

Is there any downtime with facial fillers and injectables?

Recovery After Fillers

While there is no social downtime after filler injections, it is important to follow a few guidelines. Avoid strenuous exercise and intense heat for 24-48 hours. Mild swelling, bruising, and soreness may be present at the injection sites but these side effects will fade in a few hours or by the next day.

Recovery After Neuromodulators

After neuromodulator injections, you should steer clear of alcohol and blood-thinning medications for several days. Also avoid intense heat (sun exposure, saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms) and strenuous exercise for the first day. Take care not to rub, touch, or massage the treated skin.
